Born in Chengdu, Sichuan in 1973, Liu Yongxiang began his artistic path with a profound respect for rare woods—particularly Jinsi Nanmu—and honed his craft through traditional Chinese carving methods. Early on, he focused on revealing the natural beauty within each piece of wood, from subtle grain patterns to intricate textures, resulting in sculptures that quietly honor both material and heritage.

Over time, Liu expanded beyond the studio, creating furniture and everyday objects that blend cultural richness with practical design. Such endeavors not only make art more accessible to a broader audience but also reflect his deep sense of social responsibility: many of his works are placed in public spaces, highlighting how art can offer meaningful connections in daily life.
 
Eager to further enrich his perspective, Liu journeyed abroad and found powerful inspiration in Australia. There, engaging with diverse cultural influences propelled his carving to new dimensions—merging refined Chinese techniques with fresh ideas born of international collaboration. Today, his pieces may range from intricately carved furniture that preserves a sense of Ming-inspired elegance to contemporary art installations that celebrate cross-cultural dialogue.
